Carers

Time Out Carers is a peer support group, run by carers for carers.

They share their valuable knowledge as carers to others and support navigating through what can be a very scary time when you suddenly find yourself as a carer.

Carers can take on average two years to actually realise their role as a carer and not just a wife, husband, friend, or relative of someone who needs their support.

Caring takes on many forms and isn’t just about personal care. It can be a neighbour who relies on you to fetch shopping, calling services, or helping completing forms. Most carers don’t even recognise what they do as care because they just take on extra particularly for those we live with.

Most carers would tell you the hardest thing to deal with is isolation as society doesn’t really recognise those carers that are unpaid. Family and friends don’t always understand it’s not easy to plan or to take part in social settings due to care commitments.

The group is vital in our community as we bridge that gap. Giving support both online, in person and by phone for both moral and practical help.

As a group Time Out raise their own money to support paying a vital support worker who can assist with benefits, social care, and other services carers need. They also have contact with local area Co Ordinator’s and social prescribers. Currently the group meets at both Barwell community house and the Earl Shilton community house running sessions fortnightly and monthly.

Available sessions:

Cuppa and chat run on the 2nd Tuesday evening of each month at the Earl Shilton community house 7am-8:30pm. This session is to meet others in the group and share experiences over a cuppa. There is their support worker at these sessions who can help on the night.
