Dear Barwell & Hollycroft Patient,
Please see the information below about the next event, held in conjunction with our health care partners, to allow people to find out more about the future of health services in their area. We’ve had good representation from PPG members at all of our events so far, and we’re really grateful for your ongoing support.
The next PPG meeting will take place on:-
Monday 3rd February 2020 - 6.30pm at Hollycroft Medical Centre
We have contributed to a number of events in West Leicestershire, talking to people about what we believe should be different about services in the future including having more care provided in the community, so that you only go to acute hospitals when they are acutely ill or when it is a planned procedure that cannot be done in a community setting. These events have been extremely well attended and attendees have voiced a wide range of opinions on the proposals which the CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) are capturing.
We continue to represent the patient voice in Hinckley & Bosworth and West Leicestershire by meeting regularly with other patient groups and health professionals
Leicestershire Leicester & Rutland have a plan, known as our “Sustainability and Transformation Plan”, which builds on the work of our Better Care Together programme and explains how we believe care can best be delivered over the next five years. This was developed together with our patients, carers and health and social care staff.
As part of this Hinckley & Bosworth also has a team, including patient representation from Barwell & Hollycroft surgery, called the “Integrated Locality Team” whose aim is to bring together the work of the NHS and Social services so that support and care for patients is more “joined up”
We are committed to supporting people to stay healthy and lead independent lives and believe that our plans will help to achieve this. We understand that the thought of change brings uncertainties for people, which is why we are committed to communicate with our patients through PPG meeting at our surgeries.
We hope that you will be able to come along to our meetings so you can share your ideas as well as listen to others. We would also be grateful if you could circulate the invitation to any other Barwell & Hollycroft patients we want as many people as possible to be aware of them and have the opportunity to attend.
Information is posted in both surgeries as to other events that may be taking place so please read the PPG noticeboard at either Barwell or Hollycroft.
We have had a succession of meetings in the past few years. These have been well attended by Patients, Practice GPs and Practice Staff.
We have discussed organ donation, computers in the NHS and upcoming changes of staff in the surgery. We even had a prize quiz on placing body parts!
At our Meeting in August 2013 we had a speaker from CNCS our Out of Hours (OOH's) Provider who did and excellent presentation on the OOH's service. We also had an update from one of our PPG members who attended the quarterly PPG Network meeting. Dr. Jackson and Dr. Robbins did a presentation on Flu, the new Shingles vaccine and Cancer Awareness.
November 2013 at our meeting we looked at the results from our Practice Survey, which were very encouraging. Some discussion also took place regarding patients who do not attend (DNA) their appointments and we will discuss some of the comments/suggestions at our next meeting in March.
Summer is here and our June 2014 meeting was a lovely sunny evening at Hollycroft, we had a speaker from the CCG (Clinical Commissioning Board) Sue Venables as well as updates from the Locality and Network PPG Meetings from Alan Plumpton one of our PPG Members.
September's meeting found us entering Autumn!! Dr. Jackson did a very interesting and informative talk about "Death and Dying", he was trying to educate patient's into forward planning! telling your loved ones your plans, encouraging patients to write and Will, record your funeral plans, plan your future care and support, register as an organ donor. This can all be done at any age you don't have to be dying or elderly to do this! It will help you and help your family when the time comes.
We would dearly like to get more patients attending our PPG meetings, particularly the younger generation, who appear to be not so well represented. If you know any students who may be studying in social care or wishing to enter into the medical profession perhaps you could pass the details of our PPG on to them, if they are a patient at Barwell or Hollycroft perhaps they would like to attend our meetings.
It was nice to see so many people at our meeting in July and some new faces, we hope you will come again! We had some update from Alan Plumpton on the meetings he had attended on the PPG's behalf and Dr. Jackson did a very apt, (for this time of year), presentation on different skin cancers and what the different types look like.
At our November 2015 Meeting we had 2 representatives from the new Well Pharmacy, many questions were asked and it was decided that we would invite the Area Manager to the next meeting in February 2016.
We had a very good representation at our meeting on the 8th February 2016, we had members from the Well Pharmacy to answer the queries from the last meeting, we had Kerry who is a local area co-ordinator for Barwell and we had Natasha who represents a scheme called Light Bulb who offer support to people in their own home, practical housing support, i.e. hand rails, raised seats, bath rails etc. Both Kerry and Natasha's schemes are pilot schemes, which means we need to use them for them to continue. There are details of both schemes at Barwell and Hollycroft, please ask at reception.
May, we had a good attendance at our meeting at Hollycroft, discussions took place around the proposed Hinckley & Bosworth services and Dr.Jackson set a quiz on Diabetics and some interesting facts were learnt as a result. We look forward to seeing you at our Meeting on September 5th at Barwell. Enjoy the Summer!!
If you would like to attend any of our meetings please contact us for further information or just pass your name to the Receptionists.
We value our Patient's opinions, suggestions and comments.
Many thanks
